Art of Eight was founded by former Muay Thai World Champion Melchor Menor (affectionately known around the gym as “Coach Mel”). Coach Mel founded Art of Eight on his vision of creating a gym where professionals and beginners alike could enjoy a clean, inviting, and friendly facility. Coach Mel has visited and trained at many gyms throughout the United States and around the world. As good as those gyms may be, there was always something lacking. Coach Mel believed that he could build a better gym that showcased his training philosophies.
The most important of these philosophies are discipline and respect. Art of Eight instills the values of respect and discipline with all of its members, including professionals, weekend warriors, and children alike.
For the past few years, the Art of Eight team has strived to create a clean, welcoming, yet challenging atmosphere for gym goers. When building Art of Eight, no compromises were made on quality. The facility has a full sized boxing ring, an assortment of punching and kicking heavy bags, and Hoist cardio and fitness equipment. Both professionals and beginners looking for a good workout will find the highest quality equipment in the facility. Locker rooms and bathrooms are always held to the highest standards of cleanliness. The facility is not only cleaned every morning and night, but continually throughout the day.
Every member of Art of Eight’s staff is friendly and ready to create a unique member experience. Classes are rarely ever the same, members are never bored of the same routine, so members get a high intensity workout while still being able to go at their own pace. Trainers will never ask members to perform maneuvers outside of their comfort or fitness level, and members’ limits will always be respected.
All Art of Eight trainers have some form of professional accreditation or an incredibly high level of practical experience in combat sports. In fact, many of the trainers are current and former professional athletes in the sports of boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA. The staff also consists of certified physical therapists, nutritionists and others with professional certifications.
The Art of Eight facility is conveniently located off the 163 between Balboa Ave. and Clairemont Mesa Blvd. There is plentiful parking that is always free! The location makes the facility easy to get to on the way to and from work or when members are out simply running errands.
So stop by or contact any of the friendly staff if you have any questions. Don’t forget that first-timers can schedule a free class!
